The Company was born in 1981 under the name PT Branta Mulia as the main supplier of premium tire reinforcement materials in the Southeast Asia region. In addition to having a good image, number one product quality, high professionalism, and a strong commitment in providing excellent service to customers, the Company also has quality human resources (HR) with a great desire to do their best which is the background of the Company's success to this day.
In 1985, the Company opened its first tire cord factory in Citeureup, Bogor, West Java. Subsequently, commercial operations began on April 1, 1987. The Company's shares were also listed on the Jakarta Stock Exchange and Surabaya Stock Exchange in 1990 under the name PT Branta Mulia Tbk.
In October 1990, the Company expanded by establishing a joint venture company named Thai Branta Mulia Co.Ltd., and in 1993, the Company opened a tire cord factory in Ayutthaya, Thailand. Subsequently, the Company established PT Branta Mulia Teijin Indonesia in cooperation with Teijin Limited Japan in early 1996 to produce polyester tire yarn, and commercial production began in 1997 in Citeureup, Bogor, West Java.
In 1997, DuPont Chemical and Energy Operations Inc. acquired the Company's shares as much as 19.78% shares. The acquisition was a breath of fresh air for the Company as the partnership resulted in a strategic alliance until January 2006. The partnership ended in 2006 when DuPont sold all of its shares to several founding shareholders of PT Branta Mulia Tbk.
In 1999, the Company revoked the listing of its shares on the Surabaya Stock Exchange (BES). The Company increased its shareholding in Thai Branta Mulia Co Ltd from 49% to 64.19% in 2000.
In 2006, Kordsa Global AS, which is a company in the Turki Sabanci Holding Group, purchased 51.3% of the Company's shares. Until 2018, Kordsa Global has increased its shares to 61.59% and the Company changed its name to PT Indo Kordsa Tbk.
The Company's share ownership in PT Indo Kordsa Teijin increased in 2008 to 99.90% by purchasing shares owned by Teijin Fibers Limited. So that in 2009, PT Indo Kordsa Teijin changed its name to PT Indo Kordsa Polyester (IKP).
